PPI assessment by dimension

Based on the PPI-F™ framework: rate each statement from 1 (Strongly disagree) to 5 (Strongly agree). Scores feed the Performance Pressure Index and recommendations.

Performance

Latency, throughput, scalability, and baseline metrics (pressure sources and invariants).

1. We have defined SLAs or SLOs for latency and throughput.

2. Baseline performance metrics are documented and monitored.

3. Load testing is performed regularly (e.g. before releases).

4. We can scale horizontally under load (auto-scaling or manual).

5. Performance regressions are detected before production.

6. We have a performance budget (e.g. for front-end or APIs).

7. Tail latency (e.g. p95, p99) is monitored and tracked over time.

8. Capacity planning is done based on load forecasts and growth.

Production Readiness

Deployment, observability, and change management (propagation and levers).

1. We have automated CI/CD with deployment gates.

2. Production changes are tracked (change management / audit trail).

3. Observability (metrics, logs, traces) is centralized and queryable.

4. We use canary, blue-green, or phased rollouts.

5. Runbooks and playbooks exist for common failures.

6. We have a formal release process with rollback capability.

7. Feature flags or toggles are used for safe rollout and rollback.

8. Deployment frequency and lead time are measured and improved.

9. Critical alerts have clear ownership and escalation paths.

10. Non-production environments closely match production (parity).

11. Security and compliance checks are part of the deployment pipeline.

Infrastructure Efficiency

Cost, utilization, and right-sizing (cost-to-serve).

1. Cloud/infrastructure spend is tracked by workload or team.

2. We perform right-sizing reviews (CPU, memory, storage).

3. Idle or underutilized resources are identified and decommissioned.

4. We have FinOps or cost governance alignment.

5. Resource quotas and limits are defined to prevent runaway cost.

6. We use reserved instances or committed use where appropriate.

7. Resources are tagged for showback/chargeback or allocation.

8. We use spot, preemptible, or interruptible capacity where suitable.

9. Storage lifecycle and retention policies reduce unnecessary cost.

10. Network egress and data transfer costs are visible and optimized.

11. Cost anomalies or budget drift trigger alerts or reviews.

Failure Resilience

High availability, disaster recovery, RTO/RPO, cascading failure prevention, backup and recovery, and incident response (failure modes and recovery friction).

1. We have automated failover or multi-AZ/region resilience.

2. Backup and restore procedures are tested regularly.

3. We have a defined incident response process (severity, escalation).

4. We conduct chaos engineering or resilience drills.

5. Dependencies are fault-isolated (circuit breakers, timeouts).

6. Post-incident review (blameless) is standard practice.

7. RTO and RPO targets are defined and communicated for critical systems.

8. Disaster recovery or cross-region failover is tested at least annually.

9. We monitor dependency health (downstream/upstream) and degradation.

10. Retries, backoff, and bulkheads are used to limit failure propagation.

11. Incident severity and customer impact are classified consistently.
